We have been long overdue improvements to the walking wheeling and cycling infrastructure in this area so I’m really pleased that we’re finally taking this important step forward.
It’s been a truly collective effort to get to this point and I’m so grateful for all the efforts from Love Thornwood, Glasgow Eco Trust as well as residents and Community Council’s in Thornwood, Whiteinch, Jordanhill, Broomhill and Scotstoun.
I’ve been facilitating a working group with all of these amazing members and council officers in the past couple of years as part of the Victoria Park area partnership, through which we’ve been able to allocate funding to progress this work and push the improvements higher up the Council’s agenda.
Now the consultation is live and we need to hear your thoughts!

Thornwood Roundabout
Issues around safety for pedestrians and cyclists have long been an issue at Thornwood Roundabout. Whilst we’ve secured small improvements in recent years to signage and lining along with the beautiful mural created by local artists and school pupils, major infrastructure changes are needed. The proposals outline signalised crossings where possible and other step free crossings with accessibility and public realm improvements from the Whiteinch, Broomhill, Thornwood and Glasgow Harbour approaches. Safe crossings between the bus stops on Dumbarton Rd in Thornwood were particularly important and the design also includes step free access at Auchentorlie St and Thornwood Avenue to improve safety for the route to Thornwood primary school.
National Cycle Network
The consultation includes a consultation for a new segregated cycle lane from the Riverside Museum to Smith Street / Dilwara Street in Whiteinch. This is incredibly important to help better connect the cycle routes West Glasgow with the City Centre and Govan-Partick bridge - they’re desperately needed and I hope we’ll see a positive response to the consultation.
Partick Library Drop In Session
Glasgow City Council officers will host a walk in public consultation day on Thursday 15th November at Partick Library. The event will run from 3pm to 7pm and will be open to all. The Council will advertise this further.
West Feminist Transport Group
In the past year I’ve been part of the new West Glasgow feminist transport group with the aim of making decisions around transport more accessible. We have a couple of walkabout/ workshop sessions coming up, hosted by organisations Glasgow Eco Trust and In the Making Glasgow.
